Cryptopsy - Once was Not
by OsamaEnSyViswinkel on Tracklisting: 1. Luminum 2. In The Kingdom Where Everyone Dies, The Sky Is Mortal 3. Carrionshine 4. Adeste Infidelis 5. The Curse Of The Great 6. The Frantic Pace Of Dying 7. Keeping The Cadaver Dogs Busy 8. Angelskingarden 9. The Pestilence That Walketh In Darkness [Psalm 91: 5-8] 10. The End 11. Endless Cemetary The album starts with a great, almost classical guitar instrumental, followed up by a very heavy Cryptopsy song, the kind of Cryptopsy that you are used to with nice great death metal growls and high pitched screeches / screams with insane riffing and drumming with a short classical guitar interlude. These guys are definitely one of the leaders in the brutal technical death metal genre(?). They are doing some fucking insane music with some very atonal / dissonant and even sometimes melodic and catchy (in a Cryptopsy-way.. ha ha!) riffing and leads. The drumming and the stop start time signature changes in the music is insane.... Very Happy Very Happy With some of the slightly melodic sound they're bringing in, and with better production than on any of their previous albums I'm almost inclined to say it's a more easy (listening) album than anything they've done before, but don't get me wrong, firstly someone that doesn't listen to metal will hate this completely, and even someone that listens to the odd bit of metal here and there will fucking cringe their ass off, but this is GREAT bloody metal!!!!! Heavy as hell! Anyone into some nice and seriously technical death metal, this is a definite must! I wouldn't say anything really stands out from the album, I like every song so far, but I guess I've got to listen to it some more still. I'd give this album a 9/10. Anyway, another review for you guys to do with what thou wilt! Rating:
